Subaru's new commercial is so accurate, it's irritating.
Of course they didn't use our crash, which was probably because we were doing 90 on an off-camber turn... In a 550HP STi.

But seriously, this wreck is proof that a 17 year old, his mates, and a high-end sports car is a recipe for disaster. Obviously there are exceptions, but when your sitting sideways in the air, held in only by your belt, thinking your bros are seriously jacked up, you damn well start driving slower.

Thank you, Subaru.

It is one of the few "Safety" commercials I like, and it doesn't try to skew what actually happens in a wreck like most and blame it on one or both of the drivers.

But seriously, you had a 550HP STi when you were 17? Did I read that right?

I did not. My best friend did. I was a passenger.
He found it for some obnoxiously reasonable price, it was lowered and had been sent off to Cobb.
Drove it once, holy turbo lag. Get after it a bit and it spits out probably 215-ish... Wait... BANG. Back steps out, catch it, and then you already need to shift.

It makes me sad that he wrecked it because he was only going 90 on a curve, which is more negligence and poor preparation than a lack of driving ability.

I mean, it makes me angry that he had that car at only 17, which is already stupid. But we were all young once, I just wish there was a stronger code of "when it is appropriate to drive fast" ethics.

He entered at about that speed, had lift-off oversteer. Applied opposite lock, and shot us off the road.
In his defense, he would have hit a light post if he had tried to just get it stopped.
Irony? 2 days later he had a performance driving lesson arranged...

Worth noting that we were traveling in the opposite direction that the vehicle landed

Seriously. I had a friend roll a Titan on the way to a football game in Oklahoma. He hit a patch of ice and the truck rolled over twice with a trailer hitched on the back. Everyone lived, with no major injuries. He said they're definitely going to get another Titan.

If mine hadn't been repaired, I wouldn't have minded another Lancer, either. I've still got aches and pains from the impact, but I actually managed to drive away from my accident—albeit with a floppy hood, the bumper in my trunk and the faint smell of coolant towards the end of its drive to the body shop. Tough little snot, that.

I have a scar on my left hand from where some glass hit it. I was holding the Oh shit handle with my right. Other than that, everyone was fine. Scary though when you get in that sort of accident, do a self-assessment and you're fine? You think "Ok someone else is seriously jacked up"
